Munich – This weekend sees the next highlight of the 2022 Esports racing season: the Esports Racing World Cup (ERWC), organised by Virtual Competition Organisation (VCO). 22 teams from all over the world will battle it out for a prize purse of 50,000 US dollars. The racing will take place in an exciting tournament format on the Assetto Corsa Competizione (ACC), rFactor 2 and iRacing simulation platforms. The races can be watched live on the VCO channels (Twitch and YouTube) from 19:00 (CET) on Friday.
Each of the Esports racing teams have nominated a roster of five drivers for ERWC I. Three of these squad members will contest each of the races on the respective platform. Many of the teams entering the competition usually specialise in one particular simulation. The key to success here will be versatility, flexibility and, above all, the necessary pace on all three different stages.

They bring a wealth of specialist knowledge on the individual platforms. I am really looking forward to this big Esports racing experiment. Spectators can look forward to a totally new virtual racing experience.”
Guiding viewers through the three event days is the commentary team consisting of Ben Constanduros, Lewis McGlade, Arjuna Kankipati and Luke Crane. A separate tournament will be held on each platform. After two heats, a second-chance race, a quarter final and a semi final, only two teams will progress to the final. They will then battle it out in a best-of-three format for that day’s victory. 10,000 US dollars are up for grabs each day. A further 20,000 US dollars will then be divided between the top-five of the overall standings on the Sunday. The MVD – the Most Valuable Driver – of ERWC I, the one scoring the highest number of podiums across all races, will receive additional prize money which is made up of contributions from the community via VCO’s partner FundRazr (https://v-c-o.info/mvd).
Different cars are used in ERWC I. First, on Friday, is the Mercedes-AMG GT3 on Assetto Corsa Competizione. The ultra-fast ‘Formula Pro’ single-seater will then be driven on rFactor 2 on day two. The overall winners will be decided on iRacing on Sunday, when the 100 plus drivers will be at the wheel of the Supercar Holden ZB Commodore.
ERWC I also represents the starting signal for the new Esports Racing League (ERL). From March, teams will be invited to take part in a similar tournament format to qualify for the second edition of the World Cup – ERWC II – at the start of the coming year. Qualifying will take place within the framework of three seasonal cup series (Spring, Summer and Fall), each consisting of four racing events. A prize purse of 50,000 US dollars will be up for grabs in the ERL.
