Munich – VCO goes America: The Virtual Competition Organisation (VCO) will be acting as content provider when the North American IMSA Series returns for a second Esports season on Thursday. A total of three races are scheduled to take place in the IMSA iRacing Pro Series presented by SimCraft. The championship starts on 8th April, at the virtual “Sebring International Raceway”. The next destination is Laguna Seca on 22nd April. The champions in the LMP2 and GTE classes will be confirmed after the finale on 6th May in Road Atlanta.
Many stars from the WeatherTech Championship, IMSA Michelin Pilot Challenge and IMSA Prototype Challenge will be competing in the second edition of the IMSA iRacing Pro Series. BMW works driver Bruno Spengler claimed the title last year. The live broadcasts will start at 18:30 Eastern Time (00:30 CEST). The commentary team from Radio Show Ltd. with John Hindhaugh will once again be lending their distinctive character to proceedings. The VCO will publish reports from the three events on its social media channels and will provide top-quality image material for drivers, teams and media representatives on the VCO Content Database – photos.vco-esports.com.
“We are delighted to be working with IMSA and starting this joint pilot project,” said Florian Haasper, CEO of the VCO. “The Pro Series on iRacing was a real highlight in 2020, right at the start of the Esports racing boom. I am convinced that this new edition of the championship will thrill IMSA fans all around the world again. Overall, the drivers have certainly been able to prepare even better than last year after all those hours in the simulator. It will definitely be exciting.”
“IMSA was one of the world’s first motorsports sanctioning bodies to recognize the appeal and relevance of sim racing,” IMSA President John Doonan said. “For well over a decade, our fans and many of our top drivers have enjoyed competing with one another in IMSA-sanctioned iRacing series. It’s been fun to watch sim racing’s remarkable technical development as well as its explosive growth in popularity during that time. We can’t wait to see what the future has in store for this exciting dimension of the sport.”
