THE VCO SIMMY AWARDS
Celebrating the people, teams and ideas that shaped sim racing.
The VCO SIMMY AWARDS were created in 2020 to recognise outstanding achievement across the world of sim racing and esports racing.
Rather than focusing solely on competition results, the SIMMYs celebrated the wider ecosystem behind virtual racing. Esports racers and professional teams were recognised alongside commentators, content creators, photographers, hardware manufacturers, platforms, events and other members of the community.
Categories evolved over the years to reflect the diversity of the scene – from Esports Racer, Team and Event to Social Media, Commentary, Photography, Livery and Oval Racing.
CELEBRATING THE WHOLE COMMUNITY
The idea behind the SIMMYs was simple: some of the most important contributions to sim racing happen away from the results sheet.
Great racing needs great competitors. But it also needs organisers, broadcasters, commentators, creators, technology, platforms and passionate communities.
The SIMMY AWARDS brought these different parts of the scene together, creating an annual moment to recognise the people and organisations helping virtual racing move forward.
COMMUNITY MEETS EXPERTISE
The SIMMYs combined the voice of the community with the perspective of an expert jury.
Winners were determined through a 50/50 voting system, with half of the result coming from the public vote and half from the jury.
Each category winner also received €1,000 to donate to a charity of their choice, adding another dimension to the awards beyond the trophies themselves.
THE SIMMY HALL OF FAME
A special place within the awards was reserved for the SIMMY Hall of Fame, recognising individuals whose work and achievements had made a lasting contribution to sim racing.
Its inductees included:
- Jimmy Broadbent
- Juan Diego Sánchez (iLiveries)
- Greger Huttu
- Boris Schalk

SOME OF THE NAMES THAT WON A SIMMY
These historical honours were awarded by VCO. They do not imply a current partnership, participation or endorsement by the winners.
Max Verstappen won Best Real World Pro in 2020 and 2021, recognising his performances on the virtual racetrack.
Team Redline was a repeat Best Team winner, receiving the award in both 2020 and 2021.
Jimmy Broadbent became the first SIMMY Hall of Fame inductee in 2020, when he also won Best Social Media.
PART OF VCO HISTORY
The SIMMY AWARDS represent an important chapter in VCO’s story.
They reflected a belief that has been central to VCO from the beginning: competitive virtual racing is about more than what happens on track. It is an ecosystem shaped by competitors, technology, creativity, media and community.
The SIMMYs gave that ecosystem its own stage – and celebrated the people helping esports racing grow.
